Yesterday, the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) carried out an arrest campaign in the city of Al-Sousah, resulting in the detention of several civilians, including the young man Abdullah Adnan Al-Salbi, who was arrested for raising the flag of the Syrian Arab Republic at the Al-Sousah junction.
The SDF issued a statement claiming that the detainees were accused of belonging to ISIS. However, residents of the city denied these accusations, considering them a pretext to justify the arrest of civilians and the raiding of their homes.
The campaign was accompanied by additional violations, including the confiscation of mobile phones from homeowners during the raids.
Residents explained that one of the detainees had recently arrived from Germany, while another had been residing in Lebanon, which they viewed as evidence undermining the validity of the accusations against them.
The people of Al-Sousah affirmed their rejection of criminalizing the raising of the Syrian Arab Republic’s flag, especially while other flags are permitted. They stated that the continuation of arrest campaigns constitutes a direct provocation and further escalates tension in the city.
