An official and technical delegation headed by the Assistant Chairman of the Syrian Civil Aviation Corporation, Amjad Nakhal, began a visit to Qamishli International Airport, as part of the ongoing arrangements to restart civilian flights that have been suspended since the end of 2024.

The visit came based on the agreement signed on January 29 between the Syrian government and “SDF”, which stipulated the resumption of work on a number of vital facilities, including the airport.

The delegation was received in Al-Hasakah Governorate by the leader of the Internal Security Forces, Brigadier General Marwan Al-Ali, where a coordination meeting was held to discuss the administrative and technical aspects related to the resumption, followed by preparations for a field tour of the airport facilities to assess the level of technical and service readiness.

The delegation included a number of technical and administrative cadres from various specializations, including Colonel Rami Orabi, Director of Security at Damascus International Airport, within the framework of security and technical coordination to complete operational requirements in accordance with approved standards. The delegation arrived on a Syrian Airlines plane.

In a practical indication of the start of activating the facility, a plane coming from Damascus landed at the airport, in the first flight it has witnessed since it stopped, reflecting the start of steps to gradually restore air traffic.

Qamishli Airport is one of the most prominent vital facilities in northeastern Syria, as during the years of conflict it played a pivotal role in civilian and military transportation, and constituted an essential outlet for the movement of civilians and the movement of employees and materials, especially during periods of difficulty in land movement.
