DeirEzzor24 exclusive report:
The DeirEzzor24 Network learned that the Iranian “Jihad al-Bina” organization submitted an offer to the Directorate of Antiquities and Museums in Deir Ezzor to restore the basement market in the city.
The source said that the organization is trying behind this project to appear before the people of the governorate, like other international organizations operating in the region.
Note that the aforementioned market was prepared for rehabilitation work last year, 2023, by the UNDP, but unknown reasons prevented it from starting.
It is worth mentioning that the Deir Ezzor City Council rehabilitated the public square, or what was known as “Al-Basil Square,” which overlooks the basement market, which is a symbol of the heritage of the people of Deir Ezzor Governorate and one of the oldest markets in the city of Deir Ezzor, as its construction dates back to the year 1864 and includes the market for blacksmiths, ropes, herbalists, merchants, and grains. Or what is called “Al-Arsa”, Al-Khashabeen, and “Khalouf” market.
