The water level of the Euphrates River has risen dramatically recently, consequently, many areas overlooking the River got flooded, including the fountains, which belong to some agricultural associations in the region. In addition, the majority of the gates of the River are not functioning at all due to the rising water issue.
On the other hand, a number of sources confirmed to Deir Ezzor 24 that around 20 to 30 meters of the areas adjacent to the River were covered with water after the recent heavy rainfall on the province. The people of Deir Ezzor are also concerned about a potentially flooding due to risks of the collapse of Tishreen dam, which would have a disastrous effect on the water level in the region as well.
The correspondent of Deir Ezzor 24 in the western countryside of Deir Ezzor, Yamin Abu Hamid, indicated that ISIS members have recently warned civilians living in areas near the River of a possible flood over the coming days. The owners of ferries and boats operating in the Euphrates River were also warned.
The Euphrates River’s crossings situated in the areas of Diyab, Al-Shumatiya, which link the two parts of Deir Ezzor (Al-Shamiya and Al-Jazeera) in western rural Deir Ezzor, are no longer working because of the rise in water level.
It is worth mentioning that most of the local sources indicated that the increase in the water level of the Euphrates River is due to the opening of the gates of the Euphrates Dam, located between Tishreen dam and Deir Ezzor, to allow the flow of a huge density of water in order to reduce water pressure on the dam (Euphrates) in case Tishreen dam collapses.
