Leishmania has recently spread widely in the eastern and western Deir Ezzor countryside.
Leishmania is known as a parasitic disease transmitted by the sand fly, and the disease spreads in agricultural and rural areas.
A special source reported to Deir Ezzor 24:
“The health situation in Deir Ezzor is very poor, and there are large numbers of cases of Leishmania in Deir Ezzor, and vaccines are almost non-existent which doubled the number of infections”
The source added:
“Several factors have led to the spread of Leishmania in Deir Ezzor, and at the top of the list is the large number of random camps scattered throughout the province, the polluted environment that characterizes these camps, the lack of health care and medical measures, lack of hygiene awareness and the lack of vaccines against diseases”
He said:
“The vaccines used in the past period came from areas under the control of Al-Assad forces, but they are now completely unavailable, along with a near-total decline in the work of medical organizations in recent years, making it extremely difficult to get the drugs needed for vaccines”
The source concluded:
“Dozens of cases of Leishmania were recorded in the Abu-Khashab camp over the past month, and the numbers are increasing continuously, with no vaccines needed to fight the disease,”
Mention should be made that Deir Ezzor province suffers from a decline in health and medical services because of the long-term war imposed on the province and the different poles of conflict and areas of their control and their neglect of the most basic necessities of life to be provided to the afflicted people of the province.
