The education sector in the western Deir Ezzor countryside has deteriorated significantly, as most of the schools in the region had been destroyed either partially or entirely, as a result of the military actions that took place in the region.
There are approximately 75 schools in the western Deir Ezzor countryside, many of which are out of service as they had been bombed by the Assad’s regime for eight years, in addition, their contents have also been stolen.
Most of the schools in the western Deir Ezzor countryside have no disks for students and no clear curriculum to follow in education, in addition, many students have been without education for many years and are now working in agriculture and self-employment.
With regard to the curriculum, there is not a defined curriculum, and education in those schools is limited to the alphabet and some lessons from the previous curriculum of the Assad regime.
Teachers in the region receive salaries of 60,000 Syrian pounds, and they are selected according to a special assessment by the self-government that controls the region.
There are approximately 3,500 students in the region, but many of them do not attend school in the western Deir Ezzor countryside for many reasons.
In addition, the people in the western Deir Ezzor countryside complained that the schools in their areas have been transformed into headquarters for the self-defence forces of the SDF.
It is noteworthy that the education in all over Deir Ezzor province is completely collapsing while the local authorities and officials have done nothing to revive the educational process, other than the efforts made by some teachers from the region.
