The Juridical Committee for Elections belonging to the Assad-regime has announced in a statement during a media conference held in Damascus that the number of candidates competing for membership in the regime parliamentary has exceeded 11 thousands candidates this year, among them are 311 candidates in Deir Ezzor.

This comes in a time where ISIS is imposing an inhumane and atrocious siege on civilians in the regime-held areas of Deir Ezzor, with the whole countryside being under ISIS control for more than a year, meaning that it is implausible and beyond the bounds of questions to conduct such “elections” in these areas.

A picture of a candidate in Deir Ezzor named Baraa’ al-Bitah went viral on social media. It was said that she is running for the coming parliamentary election because she is close to decision-making centers in the Assad-regime as the candidates’ lists were closed and she was still able to register herself.

The majority of these so-called candidates are just a bunch of pro-regime politicians known for their opposed views on the Syrian Revolution and lack support from the people in their hometowns, which explains why they have been living in regime-held areas like Damascus for years. This also  proves that the “elections” are nothing but a scandalous play, nothing else.
