The Minister of Transport, Dr. Yaarob Badr, discussed with the Governor of Deir Ezzor,  Ghassan Al-Sayed Ahmed, the conditions of roads and bridges in the governorate and ways to rehabilitate them and improve their readiness, during a meeting held at the Ministry of Transport.

Minister Badr confirmed that the Ministry had carried out emergency maintenance work on a number of roads and bridges during the past period with the aim of improving transportation and alleviating the suffering of citizens, noting that the Eastern Area enjoys an exceptional situation as a result of the war that led to the delay in infrastructure maintenance work.

He explained that the Ministry of Transport will work according to a list of priorities to rehabilitate bridges and roads, indicating that the Ministry’s budget for 2026 will give priority to projects to rehabilitate bridges linking the two banks of the Euphrates River, in addition to rehabilitating the Raqqa – Deir Ezzor – Albukamal road, as it constitutes a vital path for economic and service movement in the Eastern Area.

The Minister also pointed out the possibility of cooperating with private companies to contribute to restoration, rehabilitation and maintenance of roads and bridges, which would contribute to accelerating the implementation of vital projects and improving the status of the transportation network.

For his part, the Governor of Deir Ezzor reviewed the conditions of road and bridge infrastructure in the governorate, stressing the need to accelerate the rehabilitation of vital bridges that connect the governorate’s areas, most notably Al-Seasyia and Al-Mayadeen bridges, due to their essential role in facilitating the movement of citizens and goods between the two banks of the Euphrates River.

The governor also stressed the importance of rehabilitating the Raqqa – Deir Ezzor  – Albukamal road, given its strategic importance in linking the eastern governorates, in addition to addressing the situation of damaged road ferries.

At the conclusion of the meeting, emphasis was placed on continuing to study the governorate’s needs for road and bridge projects and placing them among the work priorities during the next phase.
