Residents of the town of Al-Shumaytiyah in the western countryside of Deir Ezzor organized a large protest rally, calling for the swift liberation of areas controlled by the SDF in Deir Ezzor, Raqqa, and Al-Hasakah.
The protesters also urged a reconsideration of the cases of detained revolutionaries accused of involvement in the coastal events, foremost among them the revolutionary known as “Abu Al-Maysh,” who is considered one of the most prominent revolutionary figures in the region.
This protest comes amid escalating repressive practices and violations carried out by the SDF militia in the area, prompting residents to take this step to express their dissatisfaction. The latest of these violations was the SDF’s deployment of a group of snipers at positions spread along the river strip. Local sources reported that the SDF deployed snipers at the Al-Bu Arab station in the town of Muhaimideh and at the Al-Bashir station in the village of Hawayij Boumousa’a, opposite the town of Ayash.
At the same time, Internal Security Forces in Deir Ezzor warned citizens against being near the riverbed, stressing the need to exercise caution to avoid being targeted by snipers stationed in those areas. The security forces recommended avoiding passing through these locations to protect civilians’ safety.
These developments come at a sensitive time, as residents express concern over the escalation of violations against them, calling for urgent intervention to restore their usurped rights and to pressure for the release of detainees. In conclusion, the people of Al-Shumaytiyah continue to hope that their legitimate demands will be met and that life will return to their areas under conditions of security and stability that preserve their dignity.
