Fishermen and civilians from Deir Ezzor appealed to officials to intervene and save fish wealth due to the methods used by some fishermen, which contribute to killing fish with their eggs.

Electric fishing is one of the most dangerous methods due to the distances traveled by electric motors, which spoil the eggs and kill small fish. Fishing with explosives “dynamite” is one of the methods that pose a general danger to fish, and fishing with poison or what is known as “flowers” is one of the dangerous methods that threaten fish wealth.

A local reporter of the DeirEzzor24 network said that during the Assad regime’s control of Deir Ezzor, fishermen affiliated with Assad’s forces and militias were allowed to fish, as well as people supported by the SDF.

It is noteworthy that in the city of Deir Ezzor, fishermen affiliated with Raed Al-Ghadban and Firas Al-Iraqiya were allowed to fish using electricity and explosives, which led over time to a decrease in the number of fish in the Euphrates River compared to before.
