ISIS launched a large-scale offensive on Assad-regime positions in the vicinity of the military airport, east Deir Ezzor city, today, and it succeeded after heavy clashes to make gains and advance on several regime positions in the village of al-Jafra.

The offensive was initiated with a car bomb loaded with huge amount of explosives, driven by an ISIS suicide bomber, targeting regime military positions at the village of al-Jafra located north-east the military airport.

Both parties suffered fatalities during the attack

In response to ISIS’ gains in the vicinity of the military airport, Assad-regime artillery and rocket launchers intensively bombarded the vicinity of the airport, al-Jafra and al-Marrya’, with regime warplanes conducting more than ten air raids until now on areas where ongoing clashes between Assad forces and ISIS are concentrated.

In the afternoon, sporadic clashes between both parties also took place on the outskirts of al-Ruwad hill and al-Bughayliya, west Deir Ezzor, which was captured few months ago by ISIS.

It should be noted that clashes between Assad forces and ISIS have been ongoing in al-Huwayqa and the Industrial neighborhoods of Deir Ezzor since today morning, with regime artillery shelling ISIS-held areas in Deir Ezzor city.
