The Department of Physical Therapy and Prosthetics at the National Hospital in Raqqa continues to provide rehabilitation services to various age groups, with a rate ranging between 35 and 40 prosthetic limbs and splints per month, amid recording an injury rate among young people of about 60%, while most amputation cases are due to the explosion of war remnants and mines.

The department includes specialized medical and technical personnel working to provide integrated services including the installation of lower extremities, the manufacture of splints, and the provision of mobility aids, using modern materials and technologies, including silicone and carbon fiber, in line with the needs of each case.

The leader of the prosthetic limbs team, Ali Al-Hussein, stressed the importance of psychological support as it is an essential part of the rehabilitation journey alongside physical therapy, pointing to the role of the psychological support team in helping patients and their families overcome the effects of amputation and trauma associated with the remnants of war, and supporting their reintegration into society and enabling them to regain their daily lives.
