The family of civilian Riyad Hamoud Al-Ahmed (Abu Qusay) was subjected to a raid and arrest operation, on the evening of Tuesday, February 24, 2026, in the city of Rmelan in Hasakah countryside, which ended with the family being forcibly displaced from their home after more than 12 years of residence there.
According to local sources, patrols belonging to “SDF” forces stormed the house at around nine o’clock in the evening, led by a person named Haval Jowan, where they searched the house, destroyed some of its contents, and assaulted family members, in search of the head of the family who was present in Damascus at the time of the incident.
The sources reported that the raid came against the backdrop of the appointment of Youssef Al-Ahmed, the brother of the head of the family, as director of the municipality of Al-Yarubiyah district by the Syrian government.
During the operation, the agents arrested a number of family members, including the child Qusay Riyad Al-Ahmad (16 years old), who was taken barefoot to one of the centers “Asayish” near the town of Mabadah. His mother was also arrested about an hour after her son was arrested, leaving her young children at home without care, in addition to the arrest of three women from the Yarubiyah countryside at the same time and their transfer to the same center.
Sources also reported the theft of gold jewelry and sums of money from the house , as well as the vandalism of some property during the search.
The wife of the head of the family and the three women were released at midnight on Tuesday, and were forced to return to their homes on foot for a distance of approximately three kilometers. As for the child Qusay, he was released on Wednesday evening at eleven o’clock at night, amid information indicating that signs of torture appeared on his body, which were said to have included electric shocks and spraying cold water, in addition to insults and humiliation.
Following his release, the family received orders to leave their home in Rmelan immediately and head to the town of Yarubiyah, threatening to re-arrest her if she remained.
The family had to leave the house wearing only their clothes and not allowed to take any of their belongings.
Activists described the incident as a serious violation against civilians, demanding that an investigation be opened into the incident and that the necessary measures be taken to prevent the recurrence of such incidents.
