Kidney patients at Al-Furat Hospital call for help

The dialysis department at Al-Furat Hospital in the city of Abu Hamam in the eastern countryside of Deir Ezzor faces the risk of a complete shutdown by the end of this month, coinciding with the approaching end of support provided by the medical organization «Mehad», which threatens the continuity of providing treatment to more than 40 patients suffering from kidney failure.

The department is a vital artery for patients in the region, providing hundreds of free dialysis sessions per month, and is the only lifeline for many patients who rely on it regularly to sustain their lives.

The cessation of the center would put patients at serious health risks as a result of the interruption of dialysis sessions, in addition to burdening them and their families with additional financial burdens that exceed their ability to bear, as they are forced to travel long distances in search of alternative centers to receive treatment.

Faced with this situation, the need for urgent intervention from the Ministry of Health, humanitarian organizations, and supporting agencies is growing to ensure the department’s continued operation, secure essential medicines and medical supplies, and prevent patients from being deprived of their right to treatment.

It also highlights the need to support hospitals and medical centers in the region, qualify health personnel, and provide urgent medical care to the most needy groups, ensuring the continuity of basic health services and protecting patients’ lives from the repercussions of their cessation.
