Dozens of civilians were killed, several were wounded, in airstrikes and mortar shelling that targeted different areas in Deir Ezzor city and its countryside in the last 48 hours.
23 civilians were killed, 15 others were severely injured, after Assad regime warplanes bombed a gathering of civilians at a vegetable market in the Daesh-held Humeidiyah neighborhood yesterday.
In the meantime, three civilians were killed in the area of Hawi Diban in airstrikes by the coalition, which also killed another civilian in the Hussyan area in the eastern countryside of Deir Ezzor.
The Assad regime also executed airstrikes on the water crossing located north of Deir Ezzor city, killing five civilians and wounding a number of others. In response, Daesh shelled the regime-held neighborhoods of Deir Ezzor city, claiming the lives of five civilians and injuring some others.
Assad’s forces operating in the city shelled the Daesh-controlled city of Muhassan, killing a woman and wounding several civilians.
These massacres come in light of intense clashes between Daesh and Assad’s forces and amidst a crippling siege that has paralyzed life in besieged Deir Ezzor.
Civilians residing in besieged Deir Ezzor and the countryside remain the most affected in this war which they have nothing to do with. Both, Assad’s forces and Daesh, are racing to kill civilians by mutual bombardment, which have become a commonplace in the region. The Coalition also continue to strike civilian targets on the guise of fighting against Daesh.
