Tension dominated over several areas in the countryside of Deir Ezzor today, represented by clashes between the SDF and its affiliated Deir Ezzor Military Council, against the background of the arrest of the Council’s commander in Al-Hasakah last Sunday evening.
A number of fighters from both sides were killed and injured, while a number of local civilians were killed in different areas that witnessed clashes, including Adnan Shujaa Al-Hunaidi, Ahmed Hanoush Al-Sulaiman, Mahmoud Al-Matar, Mikhlif Al-Anbez, Bahaa Hassan Al-Shaher, Khalil Muhaisen Al-Ayyad, Majid Al-Hawiwi, Amir Al-Rasheed.
The DEMC launched attacks on SDF HQs and positions in Al-Sour district, the villages of Buriha, Al-Harijiyeh, Al-Izba, and the city of Al-Sour, northeast of Deir Ezzor, in addition to the village of Zghair Jazira in the western countryside of Deir Ezzor.
In the same context, the notables of the “Bakir” clan and some of the clans of Deir Ezzor held a meeting at the house of Sheikh Abboud Mahmoud Al-Hunaidi in the village of Al-Harijiyeh. The attendees issued a 12-hour deadline for the SDF to release the commanders of the council, or they will start to mobilize the clans in Deir Ezzor, adding that every SDF position or site would be a target for clan fighters.
Furthermore, the notables and sheikhs of the “Baqqara” clan also held a meeting at the house of Sheikh “Hachem Al-Bashir” in the town of Hawaij Dhiab, in the western countryside of Deir Ezzor, to discuss the current events in Deir Ezzor. Sheikh Musab al-Hafel, the sheikh of the “Al-Akidat” clan, issued an audio statement calling on the clansmen to exercise restraint and demanded that the SDF release the detainees and stop the bloodshed against the people of Deir Ezzor.
Tension still exists in several areas of the Deir Ezzor countryside, between the elements of the Deir Ezzor Military Council and the SDF, with calls from the Council’s commanders for a general mobilization against the SDF.
