Activists from the city of Deir Ezzor have launched a wide-reaching campaign under the name “Deir Al-Izz” (“Deir of Pride”), aiming to raise $5 million to support service and development projects that will restore hope and life to a province that has suffered greatly in recent years.
According to our correspondent, the campaign targets several key areas that directly affect residents’ lives. It is designed to meet essential needs in housing, education, healthcare, security, infrastructure, and food security.
The campaign’s vision centers on rebuilding the city through practical projects that aim to improve the living conditions of Deir Ezzor ’s people. Among the most important initiatives is the purchase of heavy machinery—such as excavators, loaders, and skid-steer loaders to assist municipalities in road clearing and rubble removal. The campaign also plans to pave major roads to improve traffic flow and connect neighborhoods more efficiently. On the security front, the initiative includes installing a surveillance camera system to enhance public safety and help combat crime.
Housing is a key focus of the campaign. Organizers aim to renovate and restore 100 homes designated for the most vulnerable widows of martyrs, providing them with a dignified and safe living environment. In the health sector, activists plan to purchase a modern MRI machine for the central hospital, which will allow thousands of patients to access advanced medical services without having to travel long distances or incur high costs.
In the field of education, the campaign will work to rehabilitate five damaged or destroyed schools, ensuring a stable and appropriate learning environment for thousands of students, the future of the city. On the religious and community level, the initiative includes restoring several damaged mosques, which serve not only as places of worship but also as social gathering hubs.
The campaign also recognizes the importance of food security, aiming to support the establishment of modern bakeries to ensure the regular availability of bread at affordable prices—alleviating a major burden on residents and enhancing food stability.
“Deir Al-Izz” stands as a comprehensive community-driven initiative that reflects the spirit of solidarity and collective action toward rebuilding Deir Ezzor. It seeks to restore hope for a better life and a brighter future. Organizers hope the campaign will gain strong support from both local and international actors, enabling it to achieve its ambitious goals and make a tangible difference in the lives of thousands across the province.
