For the fourth day in a row, fierce clashes continue to rage on multiple fronts in the city of Deir Ezzor between Assad’s forces and Daesh, with the organization making new gains on those fronts.

On Wednesday, the organization gained control over a checkpoint, the power company and an area used for stationing tanks south of the military airport.

The battles in the vicinity of the airport coincided with violent fighting on different fronts, mainly the cemetery areas south of the city, the Jafra village and the neighborhoods of Deir Ezzor.

A D24 correspondent confirmed the gains which the organization made today, mainly in the Muwadafine and the Omal neighborhoods,  as well as advances on different Assad’s forces positions in the Bur Said Street.

The correspondent said that more than 200 Assad’s forces and allied militias have been killed, wounded and captured by the organization since the start of the offensive. Around 100 Daesh fighters have been killed and injured so far, including foreign affiliates from Asian and Arab countries.

Meanwhile, the Russian and Assad’s warplanes have intensified the airstrikes in the province. Today, they carried out more than 30 air strikes on the neighborhoods of Deir Ezzor, the Bughayliyah town, the vicinity of Brigade 137, the Panorama area, the Thurdah Mount and the mountain overlooking the city, which caused 4 civilian casualties, including three children in the omal neighborhood.

In response, Daesh shelled Assad-held areas in Deir Ezzor city ( Al-Joura and Al-Qusour) with mortar shells, wounding a number of civilians.

Assad’s forces brought in reinforcements from Damascus today using helicopters. The number reached 200 members from the Republican Guards. They are also forcibly recruiting civilians and deploying them to the front lines in order to stop Daesh from advancing and recapturing areas they lost.

The humanitarian situation in both, Daesh and regime-held areas in Deir Ezzor city, has worsened. A large number of civilians were forced to leave their homes due to intense airstrikes, while those residing in the regime-held pocket are terrified of the fact that the organization could carry out massacres against them if they capture the pocket.

What increased the suffering of the trapped civilians are the halt of the airdrop missions by the UN Food Program over the besieged neighborhoods due to the ongoing clashes, meaning that we might witness a humanitarian crises as the only source of food for those civilians are the airdropped food shipments.
