Hajeen General Hospital, the only medical facility in Hajeen area in the eastern countryside of Deir Ezzor , stopped providing its health services on Thursday, after the funding provided by the organization «Action for Humanity» was suddenly suspended.
The hospital’s closure has deprived more than 400,000 people of access to basic medical care.
The hospital administration was informed of the decision to completely stop support as of Wednesday, without any prior warning, which led to the immediate cessation of work and the closure of departments to patients.
The hospital has 70 beds, receives about 12,000 patients monthly, and performs about 180 natural births and 250 caesarean operations , in addition to providing various medical services including pediatric departments, incubators, surgeries, radiology, and ambulance.
The hospital’s closure raises widespread concerns among residents of the area, given the lack of any medical alternative capable of accommodating the large number of patients, especially emergency, gynecological, and pediatric cases.
