Cancer patients in Deir Ezzor are suffering from difficult humanitarian and health conditions, amid a severe shortage of specialized medical services, particularly laboratory testing facilities needed for early detection and diagnosis.

A number of patients called on the Ministry of Health and relevant authorities, along with humanitarian organizations, to establish specialized laboratories within the governorate, allowing tests and sample analysis to be conducted locally, instead of sending them to the capital, Damascus.

Patients confirm that the absence of these services forces them to bear high costs amounting to about 800 thousand Syrian pounds to conduct tests, in addition to waiting periods extending for several days to obtain the results, which increases their psychological suffering and delays the start of treatment.

The burdens also worsen as patients are forced to travel to Damascus, and the accompanying additional costs include transportation and accommodation, in addition to treatment expenses such as medications, chemotherapy sessions, and periodic examinations.

This reality reflects major challenges in the level of health justice, and highlights the urgent need for urgent government interventions, including establishing specialized centers for oncology treatment, and developing the infrastructure of the health sector in Deir Ezzor  Governorate, in a way that alleviates the suffering of patients and ensures that they receive the necessary care.
