The “Saham for Cooperation and Development” association, supported by the “Violet” organization, launched the “Voice of Transitional Justice” initiative in Deir Ezzor Governorate. The initiative aims to raise awareness about transitional justice mechanisms and their importance in addressing the legacy of violations and laying the foundations for community reconciliation.
According to a reporter from Deir Ezzor24 Network, the initiative included two training sessions for a group of young people, focusing on the concept of transitional justice and its tools, such as trials, truth commissions, institutional reforms, and legal accountability mechanisms. The participants are expected to transfer the knowledge they gained to their local communities, as part of a step toward fostering a deeper understanding of rights and the role of institutions in upholding them. The training was followed by the distribution of awareness materials introducing the initiative and its objectives.
Lawyer and trainer Khaled Al-Huwaij told DeirEzzor24 Network that Deir Ezzor is one of the areas in urgent need of implementing transitional justice mechanisms, due to the multiple controlling forces during the conflict and the resulting widespread violations. He noted that such initiatives provide opportunities to document facts, hold perpetrators accountable, and strengthen community trust in justice processes.
The initiative aims to enable victims to access their legal rights and engage them in shaping a future based on the rule of law. It also seeks to support a social and institutional environment capable of preventing the recurrence of violations. Furthermore, it aspires to contribute to creating a common ground that supports civil peace and long-term stability.
