Today, September 25, 2016 marks the fourth anniversary of the appalling massacre which was carried out by the Assad forces in the Al-Joura neighborhood on September 25, 2012. A staggering number of civilians were killed in the massacre, amounting to more than 400 deaths, while several others have gone missing since then.

Failing to storm and capture the city of Deir Ezzor from the FSA, the Assad forces, along with the Republican Guard militia, perpetrated the vicious, unspeakable massacre in Al-Joura.

Upon receiving the green light from the Assad-regime during the dawn of that day, the Assad forces who were positioned in the Al-Talai’ Camp, west Deir Ezzor, advanced towards the city and established the check points where they killed more than a hundred of civilians who were attempting to leave the city in the morning. Then, they entered into Al-Joura and continued the indiscriminate killing of the remaining residents in the neighborhood. Some of them were brutally crucified on the walls. The regime officers would determine the number of civilians their forces should kill in each of the streets of the neighborhoods.

Women and children were also among the victims in the massacre and many civilian homes and belongings were also looted and destroyed.

After the bloodthirsty Assad forces withdrew from the Al-Joura in the afternoon, the remaining civilians were gripped by fear and sorrow as the dead bodies of the executed civilians were all over the streets in the neighborhood.
