The German media channel DW interviewed Hayan Youssef, a Deir Ezzor activist who had documented the atrocities committed by the Assad forces in Deir Ezzor city before being forced to leave the province after the arrival of Daesh. He also worked, along with some other activists, as a Deir Ezzor-based photographer.
Like thousands of other Syrians, Youssef took refuge in Germany after being able to make it into the European territories.
In the interview, he talks about the situation he faced in Deir Ezzor and the human rights violations and the massacres which were perpetrated against helpless civilians residing in the province by the Assad forces. The video also shows a part of his fruitful efforts to document the atrocities, and some of his thoughts on the difference between living in Syria, under the regime control, and Europe.
