The prices of food materials in the markets of the eastern countryside of Deir Ezzor have witnessed a sky-high increase this week. The prices have increased after Daesh imposed its currency on all commercial domains in the region and threatened the violators with severe punishments. Daesh has forced civilians to change their foreign currencies into the imposed dinars and dirhams and forced all hawala outlets in the region to use the golden dinar in money transfer operations in its controlled territory.

Other reasons include the difficulty of transportation since warplanes have been targeting vehicles carrying food materials. The monopolization of some materials by merchants is also another main reason for this increase in the prices, in addition to the lack of manpower after Daesh declared the general departure for war, which forced the youths to flee to elsewhere.
