Shopkeepers in Deir Ezzor city complained about what they called a fraud carried out by the city’s municipality, local sources from the city told Deir Ezzor 24 network.
One of the shopkeepers in the city told Deir Ezzor 24 network:
“Three days ago, the municipality imposed on us, urgently and undelayably, the payment of 45,000 – 90,000 Syrian pounds (depending on the size of the shop), under the heading a “tax for occupying the pavement”.
He added: “just two days after we paid the required amounts, municipal patrols accompanied by patrols from different security branches raided our stores and forced us to remove our goods from the pavements, which was nothing but a fraud.”
It is noteworthy that the markets of Deir Ezzor province are in a state of confusion, due to the instability of the Syrian pound exchange rates against the dollar, in addition to the low rates of exchange during the past days, where the exchange exceeded 1000 Syrian pounds per dollar on the black market.
It should be noted that Deir Ezzor province is suffering from a state of economic deficit, which led to the low levels of individual income, that reach the poverty line, due to the wrong economic policies of Assad regime, in addition to the spread of bribes, favoritism and theft in the government’s circles.
