The National Defense militia removed its banners from its headquarters in the Harabish neighborhood of Deir Ezzor, and replaced them with banners that read “Command of the Fourth Division in the Eastern Region.”
Russian officials had previously demanded the dissolution of the National Defense Militia in Deir Ezzor and its integration into the Fourth Division, while the Fourth Division command demanded the militia members to establish barriers to impose royalties in the form of fees and customs on civilians, in return for entering vehicles or materials of all kinds. The Fourth Division aims to control all checkpoints and militias, with the aim of increasing the income of its backers from the Iranian Revolutionary Guards militia, the Assad family and its supporters.
The Fourth Division continues its siege of the city, confiscating some goods and other customs, and taking bribes and royalties, under threat of imprisonment for merchants and civilians who refuse to pay
