SDF have announced that they will relocate 1700 of their fighters, who are operating against Daesh in Deir Ezzor, to the Afrin region, in the countryside of Aleppo.

According to the statement, which was released by SDF, ‘We the revolutionary military factions who operate under the command of SDF and the coalition have been forced to take such a decision.’

The statement added, ‘We will relocate our fighters from Eastern Euphrates area in rural Deir Ezzor, who are fighting against Daesh, to the front lines in Afrin to fight against the Turkish aggression.’

YPG previously requested from the Assad regime to intervene in Afrin to protect it from Turkey and its allies. After a series of negotiations that took place on 20 February, a limited number of Assad militiamen entered the region.

According to sources, most of the fighters who have so far been deployed to Afrin frontlinees are forced recruits from the countryside of Raqqa and Deir Ezzor. Some of them were forcibly recruited in camps for internally displaced families in Raqqa, Hasakah and Deir Ezzo, many of whom are now affiliated with the Jaysh al Thuwar faction.
