Rehabilitation of the Qamishli border crossing in preparation for its commencement

The Facilities and Maintenance Directorate of the General Authority for Ports and Customs has begun the rehabilitation and equipping of the Qamishli border crossing with the Republic of Turkey, by carrying out excavation, leveling, and technical preparations necessary for paving shipping yards and roads designated for service and commercial traffic within the crossing.

The first phase includes rehabilitating and equipping the incoming and outgoing cargo yards and transit yards, in addition to constructing the port administration building, passenger and customs halls, and workers’ housing, within a total area of about 558 thousand square meters, providing the basic facilities necessary to operate the port and provide services.

The project comes within the Authority’s plan to develop the infrastructure of border crossings, in preparation for operating the Qamishli crossing as the seventh crossing between Syria and Turkey, which will enhance trade, transport and transit movement, and contribute to relieving pressure on existing crossings and reducing travel distances and transit times for passengers and trucks.
