Today, the city of Deir Ezzor witnessed the collapse of the “Muhammed al-Durra” metal bridge linking the Al-Huwayqa Al-Sharqiya neighborhood and the Al-Ordi neighborhood, resulting in the injury of three people.
The injured were taken to a medical center in the city to receive the necessary treatment, without additional information yet available about the nature of their injuries or their severity.
According to local sources, the collapsed bridge had been out of service for several years, and had not witnessed any actual traffic during that period, after it had been subjected to previous shellingsl that led to significant damage to its metal structure, without undergoing maintenance or rehabilitation work, which kept it in a deteriorating structural condition.
The bridge is one of the city’s oldest structures, and has remained in its damaged condition despite its use being discontinued. Residents currently rely on three alternative bridges in the area to move between the two banks, one of which is designated for pedestrians and is also used by motorcycles and some small cars, in addition to a bridge for cars and large vehicles to cross, and a third bridge designated for pedestrians to cross only, which provides suitable alternatives for residents after it goes out of service.
