The Military Security Branch in the western countryside of Deir Ezzor has increased their operatives in the areas under their control in the region, as well as the number of its mobile patrols, with the aim of extending its control over rural roads and limiting smuggling operations led by the people of the region.
These moves come following an attempt by the Military Security Branch and the Fourth Division to control as much financial resources as possible, including taxes and smuggling, which guarantees them a separate income.
The National Defense Militia with wide influence in the region supports the smugglers by providing them with protection, which causes permanent disputes between the Defense Militia on the one hand and the Fourth Division and Military Security on the other.
