From the beginning of the military campaign on Deir Ezzor city and the taking over of most of the city’s neighborhoods by the Free Army at the end of 2012, the Assad’s forces used intensive shelling and managed to displace its inhabitants.

And with the control of Daesh and the participation of Russian troops along with Assad’s forces in the bombing under the pretext of fighting Daesh, the Russians were able to double the destruction and controlled the city’s neighborhoods in a short time.

Completely destroyed neighborhoods, some of which reached 80 percent, such as Al-Sinaa, Al-Orafi, Al-Haweka, and Al-Rushdiya neighborhoods And others more than half of them were destroyed, such as Al-Omal, Al-Jbaila, and Al-Humeidiyah neighbourhoods.

And some neighborhoods became uninhabitable such as Al-Oradi, Sheikh Yassin, and Khassarat neighborhoods.

The main streets, such as the public Street, Por Saeed Street, the River Street, the Old bus station street, Takaya Street, and Hasan Al-Taha Street have become only streets across destroyed buildings which make evidence of what the Russian bombing machine and the brutality and criminality of the Assad’s forces have done.

These neighborhoods are still empty and inhabited by only 8 percent of their population due to rubble, ruins, lack of services such as electricity and water, and these neighborhoods were completely looted by the Assad’s forces and his militias.

Those who returned to them were some of the poor, the ones who work for the National defence militia, and some of the civil servants who were forced to return.

Most of the original inhabitants of those neighborhoods are wanted by the Assad’s forces, and some of them whose homes have been destroyed, emigrated to other countries, and other people put their ruined houses up for sale as brokers affiliated with Iranian militias are waiting, or were forced to sell them for fear of confiscation.

How long will these neighborhoods remain empty of their people? Who will rebuild them? Who will guarantee the rights of the owners? Or is there another project for the Russians and the Iranians in Deir Ezzor?
