ISIS launched an offensive yesterday and only after heavy clashes managed to advance against Assad-regime in Al-Rashidiyah and Al-Haweeqa districts of Deir Ezzor city.
ISIS launched an assault on Saturday midnight after it had detonated two car bombs targeting Assad-regime barracks in Al-Rashidiyah and Al-Haweeqa districts of Deir Ezzor city, DeirEzzor 24 correspondent said.
During yesterday’s clashes, ISIS succeeded in taking control over the Faculty of Arts and Humanities & Anas bin Malik Mosque in Deir Ezzor city. The group also managed to kill more than 10 regime fighters, whose bodies were transferred by the regime to the military hospital in the area of Ghazi Ayash, and captured a number of various weaponry and ammunition, DeirEzzor 24 correspondent added.
During the offensive, ISIS also sustained some casualties . At least nine ISIS militants have been killed and a number of others wounded up until now in the ongoing clashes in the city, local sources told DeirEzzor 24.
In response to the ISIS attack, regime forces heavily bombarded ISIS-held districts in the city of Deir Ezzor. The regime warplanes conducted yesterday more than 10 air raids targeting positions in Al-Rashidiyah and Al-Haweeqa in Deir Ezzor as well, while Russian planes carried out airstrikes on several targets including, Myadin ciy, the vicinity of the military airport, Al-Bughaliya, Hatla, Al-Hissan in west rural Deir Ezzor.
Yesterday Russian airstrikes on the village of Al-Hissan in west rural Deir Ezzor caused the immediate death of 10 innocent civilians while five others were wounded and transferred to the neighboring hospitals, according to medical sources on the ground. Russian planes have been deliberately targeting civilian buildings and residential areas since Russia started airstrikes against the province of Deir Ezzor on 30 September 2015.
It should be noted that the ISIS’ offensive on Al-Rashidiyah and Al-Haweeqa districts was coincided with another attack launched by the group on Deir Ezzor military airport east the city. Clashes between both parties have been going on since yesterday evening, during which both parties exchange artillery fire, with intensive Russian airstrikes on ISIS positions near the military airport.
