Assad’s forces launched an attack against SDF-held areas in the western countryside of Deir Ezzor during the early morning, capturing several villages.  The militias that took part in the attack are NDF, Iranian-backed Baqir Brigade and Hizbollah-affiliated militiamen from Hatlah village.

By taking the advantage of SDF being busy gearing up for a large-scale attack on Daesh-held village of Hajin and the Dashisha area in eastern and northern Deir Ezzor, Assad’s forces managed to capture the towns of Jayaa, Janina, and the Alyan area in the western countryside of Deir Ezzor.

A D24 correspondent said that ‘SDF have sent reinforcement to the western countryside to repel the recent advances of Assad’s forces, bearing in mind that the coalition has targeted the advancing forces with multiple strikes in the areas they recently captured.’

He added  ‘The SDF launched a counter-attack, recapturing Al Jayaa town and the Alyan area. Clashes are now taking place on the western outskirts of Janinah village’

More than 14 Assad’s forces and at least 7 SDF fighters have been killed since the start of the attack. SDF have also captured some militiamen near  Al-Alyan area.

In the wake of the attack, hundreds of civilians have been displaced from Janina, Jayaa, Shaqrah and Hissan to Muheimidah and Hayij, in the western countryside.
