In recent days, Al-Ma‘amil area north of Deir Ezzor has experienced extensive dismantling and theft of large sections of railway tracks and remaining equipment in the freight zone, reportedly carried out by members affiliated with the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).
A reporter of the DeirEzzor24 Network said that these acts are part of a series of violations affecting public facilities in areas under SDF control, including the seizure and sale of public property as scrap metal.
Sources reported that the stolen rails are being transported to metal recycling plants operated by entities close to the SDF. The operations have continued without oversight or accountability, amounting to a direct assault on the region’s vital infrastructure.
These incidents have sparked serious concerns about the deterioration of infrastructure and its impact on public services amid the ongoing absence of any authority responsible for protecting and securing such facilities.
