The residents of the town of Hatla in the Deir Ezzor countryside renewed their appeal to the General Postal Corporation and the relevant authorities, demanding urgent intervention to reactivate the services for issuing official documents at the town’s post office, and to put an end to the suffering of citizens due to the continued absence of a number of basic services that they need to complete their daily transactions.

A number of the town’s residents explained that the Hatla Post Office still lacks the ability to issue a set of important official documents, most notably the registration form, the non-employee statement, and the family statement, which forces citizens to search for alternative centers to complete their transactions, despite the presence of a post office in their town that is supposed to contribute to facilitating their access to government services.

The complainants pointed out that the continued lack of provision of these services raises questions among residents, especially in light of the lack of sufficient clarifications regarding the reasons for not activating them, or setting a clear date for returning them to work, stressing that these documents are not secondary transactions, but rather basic requirements that citizens need in many of their administrative and living affairs.

Regarding the justification for not activating services due to the presence of a service center in the Al-Ma’amel area, the residents confirmed that this option does not constitute a suitable solution for all residents of Hatla and the surrounding villages, given the long distance and difficulty of access for a large segment of citizens, in addition to the additional costs, time and effort that this entails, especially for the elderly and those with limited financial circumstances.

They pointed out that the presence of a post office within the town represents a basic service need, and not just a facility whose role can be dispensed with by relying on other, relatively remote offices. They stressed that the goal of demanding the reactivation of services is to bring service institutions closer to citizens and reduce the burdens resulting from completing the simplest official transactions.

The residents added that the citizen having to travel additional distances to obtain a document that can be issued in the center of his town doubles his suffering, especially when the transaction requires repeated reviews, which negatively affects those with limited income, employees, students and families who need these documents on an ongoing basis.

The complainants stressed that reactivating the services of issuing registration, family declaration, and non-employee declaration at the Hatla Post Office Center would contribute to improving the service situation, saving time and costs, and alleviating congestion in other centers, as well as enhancing citizens’ confidence in local service institutions.

At the conclusion of their appeal, the people of Hatla called on the General Postal Corporation and the relevant administrative authorities to conduct an assessment of the state of the services provided at the center, and to work to complete the technical and administrative requirements necessary to reactivate the issuance of official documents, with the need to clarify the reasons for the continued cessation of these services, and to set a clear timetable to address the problem.

The residents’ demand remains clear: that the Hatla Post Office fully fulfill its service role, and that the residents of the town and neighboring villages be granted the right to complete their official transactions close to their places of residence, away from the hardship of transportation and the additional costs that have become a daily burden on many families.
