The Water Resources Directorate in Deir Ezzor Governorate continues to carry out maintenance and isolation work on water collecting facilities in the desert, as part of efforts aimed at enhancing the use of rainwater and floods, and securing water sources that contribute to mitigating the effects of drought and water scarcity in the region.

The works in its current phase included the Al-Nathira Dam in the Jabal Al-Bishri area, where technical workshops are working to remove clay deposits and treat the obstacles accumulated in the valley stream and the body of the dam, with the aim of improving the efficiency of the facility and raising its readiness to receive and store rainwater and floods.

These activities are particularly important in desert areas where livestock raising depends on water sources. Maintaining water collection facilities helps conserve water near grazing areas, reducing the burden of transporting livestock and the costs incurred by livestock raisers.

These efforts also constitute an important step towards enhancing the benefit from rainfall and floods, and improving the management of available water resources, in a way that supports the sustainability of livestock breeding and contributes to protecting the sources of livelihood of families that depend on pastoral activities, in light of the challenges resulting from the decline in water resources and the recurrence of periods of drought in the desert.

Maintenance and isolation work falls within the measures aimed at maintaining the readiness of water collecting facilities and raising their efficiency, which enhances their role in supporting the living and economic stability of residents of areas affected by water scarcity in Deir Ezzor Governorate.
