During the past hours, the Euphrates River witnessed a noticeable rise in water levels, which prompted the concerned authorities in Raqqa Governorate to take urgent precautionary measures in anticipation of any emergency.
The Water Resources Directorate announced that it has increased the readiness of its technical teams, while securing heavy machinery to work on constructing an earthen barrier around the Hawi El Hawa water station, with the aim of protecting it from flooding due to the rising water.
Officials confirmed that these measures come within an emergency plan aimed at protecting vital facilities and limiting potential damage, in light of the continued rise in river levels in the eastern countryside of Raqqa.
The official authorities also called on the people of Raqqa and Deir Ezzor governorates to stay away from the banks of the Euphrates River and not to swim in its course, due to the danger of the current and the high water level.
