Deir-Ezzor Governorate commemorated the fifteenth anniversary of the start of the Syrian revolution through an official and popular event held in the sports hall (Al-Fotwa Hall) in the center of the city, in the presence of a number of local officials and community activists, in a scene that reflected the overlap of the symbolic dimension with the public presence on this occasion.
The event witnessed the participation of the Governor of Deir Ezzor, Ghassan Al-Sayyed Ahmed, and the Commander of Internal Security, Colonel Derar Al-Shamlan, along with the Head of Political Affairs, Ahmed Al-Hajr, and the Commander of the 66th Division, Brigadier General Ahmed Al-Mohammad, in addition to a remarkable presence of the families of the martyrs, representatives of civil society organizations, and dignitaries of the governorate. The occasion included speeches that emphasized the importance of commemorating the anniversary and recalling the sacrifices of the Syrians during the years of conflict.
The event included symbolic performances and social and cultural activities, in addition to honoring a number of martyrs’ families, in an attempt to highlight the human dimension of the memory and strengthen community ties in light of the circumstances the governorate has experienced over the past years.
This event comes in the context of an annual commemoration of the anniversary dating back to 2011, which constituted a pivotal stage in the modern history of Syria, where popular protests broke out that later turned into a long-term conflict that left profound effects on various governorates, including Deir Ezzor, which witnessed rapid field and security transformations during the years of war.
Amid the ongoing economic and service challenges, this official and popular presence reflects an effort to revive public life and restore social activity in the city, while emphasizing the importance of stability and reconstruction in the coming period.
