The Specialized Children’s Hospital in Raqqa witnessed great pressure on the number of visitors, after recording about 12,000 cases in just 28 days, in an indication of the increasing demand for medical services dedicated to children in the city.
This increase in the number of visitors coincides with the return of relative stability to Raqqa, which has led to a large turnout of patients into the hospital, exceeding its current capacity.
The hospital director, Dr. Hussein Al-Okla, explained that the medical staff is making intensive efforts to deal with the increasing numbers of patients, noting that the outpatient clinics received 7,610 visitors, while the ambulance department received 2,059 cases, in addition to hundreds of cases that received care in the intensive care, incubators and operating departments.
Al-Okla explained that the hospital’s capacity does not exceed 117 beds, including 5 intensive care beds, which makes the continued operation under this pressure a “fragile balance” that may affect the quality of medical services and patient safety.
He stressed that the ideal solution is to move quickly to the new children’s hospital building, as it is better equipped and has a greater capacity that allows health services to be provided to children more efficiently.
