Kuwaiti authorities have deported a 100-year-old Syrian woman, Khalfa Al-Shihab, to Damascus, despite her lawful entry into the country on a family visit visa.
According to sources close to the family, the deportation decision came after officials visited the home of her son, who resides in Kuwait, and informed him that his mother must leave the country immediately because “her age does not comply with the conditions for temporary residency.”
Mrs. Khalfa, who hails from the city of Al-Bukamal in the Deir Ezzor countryside, endured an exhausting journey lasting more than 15 hours through several stops, including Kuwait, the UAE, and then Damascus.
The incident has sparked widespread sympathy on social media, with many calling for the decision to be reconsidered in light of the elderly woman’s humanitarian and age-related circumstances.
