The residents of the town of Hawi Al-Ghubra, near the city of Al-Bukamal in eastern Deir Ezzor, in cooperation with the Directorate of Religious Endowments (Awqaf), have completed the restoration and preparation of the Khalid ibn AWalid Mosque, and the first Friday sermon which was held after its opening.
The restoration and rehabilitation work was conducted out after Iranian militias had converted the mosque into a Husseiniya (a Shitte shrine) during their presence in the area, prior to the overthrown of the former regime.
The Deir Ezzor Directorate of Awqaf, with the full support of the town’s residents, began the restoration and rehabilitation efforts several weeks ago, aiming to return the mosque to its original state as a place of worship for the people of Hawi Al-Ghubra village in the eastern countryside of Deir Ezzor.
