Residents in western Deir Ezzor are facing soaring transportation costs, with local communities calling for authorities to intervene and regulate fares.

According to reports from DeirEzzor24, transportation fees for travel between Raqqa and nearby towns such as Al-Tabni, Ma’dan, and Al-Masrab have surged, with fares now ranging between 50,000 and 60,000 Syrian pounds per passenger—the same as the cost of travelling from Raqqa to the city of Deir Ezzor, a significantly longer route.

Malek Abdul Latif, a resident of Al-Tabni, told local reporters that fares have recently risen to 45,000 Syrian pounds for the relatively short journey to Deir Ezzor city. Trips from Raqqa to Al-Tabni and Ma’dan now cost between 50,000 and 60,000 pounds, despite the availability of fuel and the relatively short distances involved.

The rising costs have placed a growing burden on residents, particularly students, patients, and shopkeepers, many of whom travel to urban centres on a near-daily basis.

There have been increasing calls for regulatory action, with critics blaming the absence of government oversight on minibus and bus operators for the sharp rise in prices.

Currently, the fare for a one-way journey between Deir Ezzor and Raqqa stands at around 50,000 Syrian pounds, departing from the main bus stations in either city.
