Deir Ezzor, Syria – Security forces in the city of Al-Mayadin have seized a shipment of Grad rockets during a special operation targeting illegal arms trade networks, according to a statement from the Internal Security Directorate.
The operation, described as “qualitative” by officials, led to the arrest of several individuals involved in the smuggling and distribution of the weapons. The entire cache of rockets was confiscated, and the detainees have been transferred to the competent judicial authorities to face legal proceedings.
A source within the Directorate stated that the operation comes as part of a broader security strategy aimed at curbing the proliferation of unlicensed weapons and reinforcing public safety in the region.
Grad rockets, known for their long-range capabilities and heavy firepower, pose a significant threat when in the hands of unauthorized groups. Authorities did not disclose the origin or intended destination of the shipment but affirmed that investigations are ongoing.
This latest crackdown highlights the continued efforts by security agencies in eastern Syria to dismantle illicit arms networks and restore order in areas long affected by conflict and instability.
