“Reading is Life”: A cultural workshop in Deir Ezzor to revitalize the cultural scene in the province

As part of efforts to revitalize the cultural scene in Deir Ezzor, the Directorate of Political Affairs, in cooperation with the Student Union at Al-Furat University, organized a cultural workshop titled “Reading is a Renewed Life,” according to a DeirEzzor24 Network reporter.

Our reporter said that the workshop was held at the Faculty of Arts at Al-Furat University, and was attended by a select group of university professors and a number of students interested in cultural and intellectual affairs.

In a statement to DeirEzzor24 Network, Saad Moaz Jaafar, head of the Cultural Center at the Directorate of Political Affairs, explained that the workshop witnessed remarkable interaction from the attendees and included valuable contributions from the students. He noted that it is part of a campaign aimed at developing the cultural environment in the province, and confirmed the existence of an ongoing plan to organize similar workshops and events in the coming period.

Samar Al-Ahrash, a student from the English Literature Department at Al-Furat University, told DeirEzzor24 Network that the workshop represents an important step towards building a reading society. Conscious, she added, “We hope that Syrian universities will continue to support and develop these types of workshops, as they open new horizons for students in thought and knowledge.”

Al-Ahrash continued her remarks by emphasizing the importance of beginning to instill a culture of reading the Holy Quran, as it is the cornerstone in building a solid awareness, along with openness to other cultures without imitating them. She believed that society possesses the cultural foundations sufficient to distinguish itself and innovate.

For her part, student Farah Al-Omar told DeirEzzor24 that the workshop was rich in ideas and sparked important discussions about the impact of reading on developing societies. She emphasized that it was a beneficial experience that introduced students to the importance of knowledge as a driving force toward progress.

At the conclusion of the workshop, the organizers emphasized the importance of continuing these initiatives, which aim to restore respect for culture and reading in the lives of young people. They believed that cognitive awareness is the cornerstone of building a cohesive society capable of reviving itself, despite all the challenges and difficulties the region has faced.
