According to a reporter for the DeirEzzor24 Network, Deir Ezzor is going through a significant increase in commercial rents from owners outside the governorate, some of whom are outside Syria.
Our reporter said that rents for commercial stores on Cinema Fouad Street, Al-Qusour neighborhood, and Al-Wadi Street in Deir Ezzor city have increased by 50 percent recently, according to the owners of the stores on these streets.
He added: At the entrance to Six to a Quarter Street in Deir Ezzor, rental prices for commercial shops have increased by 500,000 Syrian pounds per shop. This compares to a rent of 900,000 Syrian pounds, as the shop is considered almost destroyed, according to the owner of a gift shop on Six to a Quarter Street.
Ghassan al-Awaid, a young man who works as a barber in the al-Qusour neighborhood, confirmed that the owner is now asking for rent in US dollars, amounting to $250. This prompted him to agree, as he has been operating the shop for seven years and has his own clientele.
He added that he is now looking for another shop on Al-Mukhbar Street in the Al-Qusour neighborhood with lower prices to move to, as he cannot afford to raise haircut prices for both old and new customers.
