According to a DeirEzzor24 Network correspondent, complaints from residents of Deir Ezzor province continue to increase due to the continued rise in internal and external transportation costs despite a significant drop in fuel prices.

Our correspondent said that some residents linked the issue to the SDF’s control of the region’s oil wells, despite the announced agreements to hand them over to the government.

A woman from the al-Ummal neighborhood told Deir ez-Zor 24 Network: “We used to live in the al-Qusour neighborhood, and my children attended their schools there, at the Adel Alwan School. After moving to the al-Ummal neighborhood, I now pay 6,000 Syrian pounds per day for my three children’s round-trip transportation, which has placed an additional financial burden on the family.”

Hanaa, a teacher at Riyad Naima Preparatory School, said, “I recently moved from the Qusour neighborhood to the Al-Ummal neighborhood, but I couldn’t transfer my school because the school year was about to end. Now, my daily transportation to school and private lessons in different neighborhoods are financially burdening me.”

Our correspondent added that internal transportation costs were estimated at 500 Syrian pounds per person before the fall of the Assad regime and the decline in fuel prices, but today they have increased despite the decline in fuel costs.

Some bus drivers explained that their earnings are not enough to cover fuel expenses, especially since they purchase fuel from official stations (gas stations) at high prices, compared to lower-quality mobile fuel.

It’s worth noting that the problem of high transportation fares in Deir ez-Zor applies to all province citizens, and the complaint comes from every individual and every neighborhood. Therefore, the people of Deir ez-Zor hope that the relevant authorities will intervene to reduce the prices of internal transportation, buses, and taxis, in line with the decline in fuel prices, to ease the burden on citizens who are suffering from deteriorating living conditions
