Microbus drivers in the city of Al-Mayadeen, east of Deir Ezzor, are facing increasing difficulties due to the low fares, which amount to 12,000 Syrian pounds, according to Deir Ezzor 24 Network.
Our correspondent said that the minibus drivers believe the fares are insufficient to cover their high operating costs, given the high prices of spare parts and the poor quality of diesel, which exacerbates their financial burdens.
He added that the entry of European vehicles into the transportation lines within Al-Mayadeen has exacerbated the problem and led to a recession that directly impacted the drivers’ income.
Driver Mohammed Nouri told Deir Ezzor 24 Network, “We have submitted several official complaints to the Transport Department demanding that these vehicles be stopped from operating, but to no avail.”
The drivers are demanding that the relevant authorities form a specialized committee to study the distances between the lines and determine a fares appropriate to the nature of each route, ensuring fairness and the continuity of their work amidst the difficult economic conditions.
