The Syrian Metals Company issued a circular warning to traders and shippers against buying scrap metals “tonaj” in all its forms and types and transporting them until Saturday 01/18/2025.
According to the company, this circular came out of concern for the economy of the new Syrian state and to avoid tampering with the infrastructure by vandals to prevent attacks on military units and to preserve the country’s capabilities.
The correspondent of Deir Ezzor Network Deir Ezzor24 said that the process of stealing metals from demolished and abandoned homes has continued in Deir Ezzor areas for years, at the hands of militias and groups affiliated with the Fourth Division and the National Defense Militia.
He added that this phenomenon is still ongoing to this day, but to a lesser extent, and that digging operations have been recorded in homes to extract iron illegally by thieves in the Kanamat and Rashidiya neighborhoods in Deir Ezzor city.
