The city of Al-Bukamal, east of Deir Ezzor, witnessed violent clashes yesterday evening between the Military Operations Department and gunmen from the Iranian-backed “47th Regiment” militia.
The clashes erupted following raids by the Public Security targeting their locations. The operation resulted in the injury of two members and the arrest of six others, in addition to the seizure of weapons and ammunition. The Public Security also found a weapons depot in Al-Sukkariyah, east of Al-Bukamal.
It is worth noting that the remnants of the Iranian-backed militias in Albukamal still possess weapons depots, which they occasionally try to smuggle into Iraq.
