The article’s picture is expressive

Eleven years have passed, and the grief and pain of the Jura and Qusour massacre remain bearable in the minds and hearts of the people of Deir Ezzor.

Scenes that bring tears to the eyes, body parts scattered everywhere, and the blood of the victims still warm, refusing to dry until the criminal who sows corruption and bloodshed in Syria is held accountable.

Eleven years have passed, and the smell of death is still present in the city, which silently mourns its sons who were killed by the weapons of treachery, sectarianism, and hatred.

The massacre in the Jura neighborhood, known as the Republican Guard massacre, etched itself into the memory of Deir Ezzor. The Republican Guard emptied its hatred into the bodies of the city’s residents, with hundreds of bodies riddled with bullets, others torn apart by the knives of enmity, and some charred by the fires ignited by their brutality. No one was spared, not even children, women, or the elderly.

It was a Black Tuesday, on a day like this eleven years ago, when the Fourth Division, part of Assad’s forces, invaded the neighborhoods of Jura and Qusour in Deir ez-Zor, supported by Arab-speaking elements who witnessed the massacre with their own eyes.

The campaign was led by the late commander of the Republican Guard forces, Issam Zahreddine, and the leader of the Special Tasks Battalion of the Republican Guard, Ali Khazam, both known for their boundless criminality. Their final resting place was in the city they terrorized, as they were killed by landmines.

The streets were filled with hundreds of corpses, and houses were packed with families slaughtered in cold blood. Hundreds more remain missing to this day.

Eleven years have passed, and the tears of mothers and orphans still flow with a burning intensity that could ignite their hearts. The images of the victims continue to cast a shadow over the city, and their spirits wander, seeking justice so they can rest in peace.

Hundreds of documents and reports confirm the commission of dozens of massacres by Assad and his supporters and militias, ranging from torture of detainees to the use of chemical weapons. The criminal remains free, and the souls of the victims are still trapped in the depths of injustice and oppression.
